If you are a new client, please fill out the Inquiry Form in the "Get Started" tab at the top of the page or call us and we can start the intake process over the phone.
Once you have submitted the form, we will follow up within 2-3 business days at which point we will send you our Terms & Policies document and detailed form where you can tell us about the service(s) you need and your dog(s). After submitting your form and agreeing to the Terms & Policies, you'll schedule an in-person meeting with your walker so that they can meet your dog(s) and confirm more details regarding pick-up/drop-off and your residence. At the end of the this meeting (if both parties are comfortable with proceeding), you and the dog walker will sign a Services Contract and a Mutual Release of Liability agreement at which point the services will be set to begin! Please note that until the contract and release are signed, both the dog owner and dog walker can choose not to proceed at this point and they do not have to provide a reason. Until the contract is signed, everything else is preliminary and non-committal.

JWalk's comes to your neighbourhood to walk your dog. The routes are predetermined and communicated to dog owners prior to our walks. We use a rotation of predetermined routes to ensure that your dog receives the appropriate amount of exercise and variation in their walks. Regarding dog parks - JWalk's is not equipped to transport dogs to the dog park and we are an on-leash walking service.

Yes! Congratulations on your new family member! Our Puppy Promenade packages are focused on walk training for puppies that are under 12 months old. Our goal with these packages is to offer consistency, patience, and a relaxed, confident pace so that puppies can learn how to walk! Note that we only offer walk training for puppies with 20 or 25 day packages. Learning to walk takes time and a solid routine in order to build walking skills and manners that will stick.

Yes we can teach your dog how to walk! However, this service is only available when you book either a 31 or 25 day package. Why? Because training takes time and most importantly, consistency. As a result, we don't do any walk training for any packages that are less than 25 days per month.

You do not have to tip! It is not necessary, but it is infinitely appreciated. Like any service, if you think we are doing a great job, if you appreciate our work, or if you want to just give us a little extra something, we are extremely grateful if you feel like tipping.

No - your dog does not have to be spayed/neutered in order to walk with us, but you would need to disclose this to us during your intake. Your dog's status is also an important consideration if you are looking at the Street Sweep Group Walk option. Please contact us directly for more information.

Quite possibly! Our thorough intake process is rooted in compassion and the desire to provide the best experience for every dog (and their walker too!) Muzzle aside, we want to ensure that we are a good fit for your dog and that your dog is a good fit for us. It is of the utmost importance that your dog (and the walker) are comfortable and safe together as a duo. We are non-judgemental and we believe that muzzles do not equate to "bad" or "aggressive" dogs, rather, a muzzle can be a crucial tool to help dogs who are easily overwhelmed, stressed, and reactive (we would like to note that "reactive" does not specifically mean "reactive to humans;" this could also entail reactivity to other passing dogs or school buses, construction equipment, snowblowers, lawnmowers, bicycles etc.). In short, a muzzle is NOT a non-starter. Please reach out to us, we will take things a step at a time just as we do with every dog and owner.

Yes - Rain or shine, snow or sleet, freezing rain or otherwise. We are prepared for any form of weather with the appropriate clothing and gear for the conditions. Dogs need to walk!
With this in mind, if a noteworthy and exceptional weather event occurs wherein the safety and wellbeing of the dog and dog walker are threatened, the dog walker will communicate this to the owner when needed. Walks may be delayed until later in the day, shortened, or cancelled in extreme conditions. For more information, please contact us.

The short answer is no. It is of the utmost importance to me to stay focused on your dog and our surroundings during our walk. Believe it or not, dogs can tell when the human on the other end of the leash is distracted and not walking with purpose. However, if an owner wishes, I am very happy to provide text messages (or emails) before we start a walk and after.

All this means is that when you become a client with JWalk's you are agreeing to a receive a level of transparent communication from us when we look after your dog.
We maintain a right to communicate any obvious concerns to you regarding the health, hygiene, and wellbeing, specifically if these concerns are inhibiting your dog's capacity to walk. This could include, but is not limited to, nails that are too long making it painful for the dog to walk, if the dog is scratching their ears, face, body excessively during a walk, if the dog appears to be limping, if the dog is paying excessive attention to their bum (scooting, licking etc.), if the dog is paying excessive attention to their paws (licking, biting etc.). If these issues are affecting a walk, the we will make the owner aware of the issue(s) at which point, the owner is expected to seek out solutions.
In addition to any hygiene or physical issues, the walker will also communicate all details regarding your dog's behaviour on a walk if it is out of the ordinary or if a concerning behaviour has presented itself that the owner is not aware of or has neglected to disclose during their initial intake process. It is of the utmost importance for owners to disclose as much detail as possible about all of their dog's behaviours so that the walker can be as prepared and safe as possible.

Reach out to us! Just like any other client, we want to know more about you, your dog and their needs. Most dogs do benefit physically and mentally from a regular walking routine, so it's quite possible that hiring us would be beneficial for your dog. Take some time to fill out the basic questionnaire form in the "Get Started" link at the top of the page and we'll go from there!

JWalk's does not offer socialization classes and Group Walks are not intended to be a socialization option; not all dogs will qualify for group walks. It is crucial that owners provide as much information as possible about their dog's behaviour (on walks, towards other people, dogs etc.) during their intake session with JWalk's so that we can follow your dog's lead. Socialization is often a by-product of walking, however, we will not approach other dogs or people if you dog struggles with these encounters. For more information, please contact us.

The contract represents the conditions of the agreement we are entering into together as the dog walker, the dog owner, and of course, the dog! The contract in conjunction with our Terms & Policies document provides detailed and transparent information about JWalk's policies, payment details, cancellations, refunds etc. The contract is an important way to make sure we're all on the same page.
The Mutual Release of Liability form is legally binding document that represents a shared agreement between the dog owner and dog walker's consent to waive their rights to take legal action against the other party. Signing a mutual release of liability dictates that any accidental issues, harm, and damages inflicted on either party by the other party will be resolved outside of court.

At this time JWalk's is not offering cat care as a standalone service. If you are interested in booking an Overnight Care package and you have a cat, of course! We will be happy to care for your feline family member in addition to your dog(s). Please note that you must make us aware that you have a cat prior to booking an Overnight Care package.

After conducting an environmental scan of other pet care businesses in the South Gloucester area, we have found that our rates (specifically our overnight care rates) are competitive with other dog walking and overnight options across Ottawa and the South Gloucester area. With this in mind, it is important that JWalk's provide a living wage for its employees as the dog walkers take on individual expenses to provide the services on our roster. We pay for insurance, we buy our own equipment (we provide all poop bags and treats), we travel to you, we have business phones, advertising costs, and various subscription fees, we buy dog walking specific workwear to contend with Ottawa's varied climate, and we work weekends and holidays. We also want our walkers to be Pet First Aid Certified and have background checks. If our prices don't make sense for your situation, we understand the need to look elsewhere.
